Mapping: CfWI - Developing public health skills and workforce

This project is a horizon scanning study on public health carried out by The University of Manchester at the request of CFWI. The intention, in light of on-going reform of the public health sector, was to provide strategic intelligence on key issues shaping the ‘development of the specialist public health workforce and the public health skills of the wider healthcare workforce’ over the coming decades.

The methodology for carrying out this study has combined several approaches for taking in evidence and locating expertise. We have conducted documentation analysis, expert interviews, and a stakeholder workshop to identify and analyse key technological, economic, environmental, political, social and ethical (TEEPSE) issues that may have influence on workforce planning for this sector. The territorial scope of the study is England, but experiences and lessons have been drawn from all four regions that make up the United Kingdom as well as taking in the wider international context.
